Contemporary Artist

Statement

My paintings explore the resonance of acoustic memories within atmospheric architectural spaces. I am drawn to interior views, thresholds, and vantage points that evoke spaciousness and inner calm, alongside expressive abstracts and landscapes.

Working from memory, photographs, and imagination, I build layered surfaces rich in texture and nuanced light. My compositions often borrow from cinematic framing—reflective surfaces, unexpected perspectives, and counterintuitive angles—positioning the work between realism and impressionism. Elements from my personal background emerge organically, sometimes mingled with playful abstraction.

I welcome commission proposals, typically working from photographs of meaningful spaces or viewpoints to create paintings that capture the unique atmosphere and architecture of a place.

Bio/CV

My background is multidisciplinary, spanning art, music, acoustics, product design, and sound engineering. I work across painting, installation, music composition, sound, and video mapping, exploring the interplay of space, memory, and resonance.

I completed an MA in Contemporary Fine Art (with Merit) at the University of Cumbria’s Institute of the Arts in 2017. Earlier qualifications include a PGCE in Post-Compulsory Education (2007), a Diploma in Acoustics and Noise Control (1994), and a BSc (Hons) in Engineering Product Design (1989).

From 2017 to 2022, I was based at Mutual, an artist-run studio co-operative in Edinburgh. In 2022, I moved to Glasgow, where I established my own studio practice.

Alongside my artistic work, I manage the archive and online presence of my mother, the celebrated British ceramic artist Elizabeth Fritsch
